Thai Blue vases

Playing with blue-white traditions in ceramics.

Roots in Thailand, Delft and China

All the vases in the Thai Blue series are hand-painted with traditional Thai flower patterns that call Delft pottery to mind. The resemblance goes back 500 years, to the time when Delftware was invented as a cheap substitute for blue-and-white Chinese porcelain. The windmill, a classic Dutch icon, refers to the ‘Delftware’ the same producer manufactures for the Dutch tourist market. Centuries of global trade and idea exchange come together in Thai Blue.

Hand painting of all sorts

Old traditional techniques and experimental processes are combined in the Thai Blue vases. Traditional blue-white flowers painted in finely shaded blue-white, or as embossed line drawing, or covered in a minimalist rhythm of embossed dotted lines. To emphasise the craftsmanship the master painters sign each vase in their own language.

Dutch flowers and Thai Blue

With or without flowers, the decorative vases are eye-catching in their own right. Flower stylists of leading magazines and stores have been inspired to create stunning arrangements in the Wonderable vases.
